Kitchen Cabinets - Pt 1

Kitchen - Part 1

So someone mentioned to me that blog posts are supposed to be short. 500 words max. Well damn. Hence Part 1.

The next project in the long list of things to do was fix the kitchen, which needed a LOT of assistance. When we moved in, it was a galley kitchen from the 70s (we think...) with these beautiful dark wood cabinets -

Old Ugly cabinets
Part of the weirdness of the kitchen came from the wall between the kitchen and the dining room - which had a pass through that only midgets or 4 year-olds would find useful.  They had regular cabinets on the top and bottom and in-between they had left the space open. If you attempted to put a bar stool here (which I think was the intention, as the counter top does hang over into the dining room) you'd be face to face with some drywall. We don't typically party enough to enjoy a nice chat with the wall. I know some people do, and I'm not judging you. Just saying, in our house, we don't need that kind of entertainment. We're weird enough.

So, while N & I were moving furniture into the house, Dad was ripping cabinets out. He took them off the weird half wall (with the pass-thru), which helped the kitchen at least not feel so  dark and like the cabinets were going to turn into monsters and eat me.

One night I came home from work and said, lets rip out this mother trucking wall....  after dinner.  (I do have priorities)

Noah just looked at me. (I'm known for coming up with these projects at the last minute and putting a deadline on us to get them done... something small, like hosting a party...)

He sighed..."Okay, go get the FUBAR."
(If you dont know what a FUBAR is, you're missing out. This thing can destroy EVERYTHING)

So we ripped out the wall.

And part of the ceiling. Whoops!

And found some dead mice. Just the bones though. They'd been dead a while. It's an older house after all..

Then we patched the hole and primed the drywall.

That was 5 years ago....
