Update: I'm pretty sure this was actually 2011. But I cant recall.
January 2010 -
We finally thought we'd hit a point where we could take a break for a minute.. cause you have to do that. Your bank and your back occasionally require it.
So, imagine my level of excitedness one cold morning to flush the hall toilet and see water leak out of the bottom and onto the floor....
Begin the demo to see how bad the leak is...
The Verdict: Sub floor = 100% rotted.
Awesome. Looks like our little house project break is over. I'm just glad someone didn't sit on the toilet and fall into the crawlspace.
So N starts ripping out sub floor only to find that we have wayyyyy to many levels of sub floor (FOUR). Turns out we cant just repair that one spot because the rot goes everywhere. Under the tub. Under the sink. Basically we get to gut the bathroom down to the floor joists (in JANUARY WHEN ITS COLD OUTSIDE) and start over.
N - contemplating blowing the house up and starting over per Dad's advice when we moved in.
Down to the studs....and the dirt.
Repaired the plumbing and replaced the subfloor
Removed the popcorn ceiling
Added a tub, and durrocked the walls & floor
Tiled the floor
Found an electrical nightmare that we got to fix (BONUS PROJECT!)
Painted the ceiling with a textured rolled and drywall mud mixed with paint
Tiled the Shower:
and finally, added Bead Board & a new vanity
Finished Shots:
(okay this is an almost finished shot)
We started this project in January 2010 (the weekend after N's birthday). We finished it the last week of February (the week before my birthday) so it took us a full month to do.
Now we use this bathroom as our main bathroom instead of the one in our master :)
Cause it's prettier.
Now we really are taking a home improvement break. At least until... Fall 2010?
