House Project Numero Uno - The Outside

March 2008

We decided our first house project to tackle would be the overgrown bushes in the front yard. Mostly because its the cheapest project we could do (my own manual labor is free, right?) and because the Manhattan Euoynomus had taken over and I was beginning to think they would come to life as giant plant monsters and eat the dog.

So, mom and I started ripping out bushes. I don't remember how long it took, but it wasn't a fast process. We dug the enormous stumps out of the ground and drug them to the street for the poor trash man to take. Side note - our trash man rocks. He'll seriously take ANYTHING we put out there. Including shrubs.

Once we got everything out, I tilled and turned and added topsoil. Then Mom & I headed to Lowe's for their $7 plant sale. If you haven't hit that up - it's brilliant. I only spent around $150 for the entire front flower bed. Yes, the plants are small.. but did you know that plants grow? It's worth the wait. Trust me.

With help from Mom's green thumb and gardening expertise, we got the front flower beds ready to go -

Ripping out old shrubs

Old trees out - new $7 plants in.
Plus a new coat of paint on the foundation.
