Windows & Paint!!!

May 2008

Who would've thought that I'd ever get so excited about windows and paint? Well, it happened. Maybe because I wanted windows I could actually open. Maybe :)

Since we were renting this home from my in-laws, we'd set up a deal with them to help improve the house. Basically, we'd do the labor and they'd fund materials. It was a pretty good set up. I'm pretty sure my time spent in labor equaled the amount they put toward materials when we finally bought the house from them.

Our first real project was to update the windows. They were original to the house, which we THINK means they were from the 60s-70s. Single pane. Aluminum. With storm windows.  U G L Y. We opted for the professional install on these, even though the Hubs had worked for 5 years in new home construction, it wasn't a task either of us felt comfortable with. Instead, we decided to paint. So while the guys were putting in new windows, we were following them with buckets of paint. I'm not sure they appreciated it, but we tried to stay out of their way as much as possible. We got the entire house and part of the garage (including foundations) done in a long weekend.

Colors
House - Valspar "Mark Twains House Olive"

Foundation - Valspar "Turkish Coffee"

Front Door - Valspar "Cowboy Boot Brown"

**When you are painting the exterior, get the good expensive paint. It covers better than the regular stuff. Trust me, no one wants to do two coats on the exterior of your entire house.

Picture Time!

Total Cost:
Windows - materials plus install $7,000
Paint - $200
